Today I have guest lecture about "Application of Numerical and Laboratory Models to Understand The Physics of Explossive Volcanic Eruption", or for simple it's about volcano modelling. A lecture is from ASU (Arizona State University), she is a proffesor volcanologist, Prof. Amanda Bactell Clark.
This short lecture is different than other that mostly just explain about rock, energy resource like petroleum,CBM, geothermal and mining. But it give something new for us. In that oppurtinity, Prof. Amanda introduce a volcano modelling, how the process of volcano eruption which is representated by model. It's vascinating for geologists to learn about volcano modelling, because beside we learn about the volcanic rock, the product of volcanic eruption, we also should know about the process of it's forming, such as: how the material of eruption can be sedimented..
Well guys, the volcano modelling is research that done by Prof. Amanda, from this researce she gain Wager Medal 2011 IAVCEI. She made some models of volcanic eruption, but her model is only aplicable for some volcano system that have explosive eruption and not available to efussive eruption because in efussive eruption have magma which is rise into the surface and to make artificial magma is impossible for now,,
Her methode is controled by some parameters, those are: temperature, pressure and density, by combine these parametes she can make some models of volcanic eruption (explossive eruption). she apply the principple of volcanic eruption to make the models. The models represent some type of explossive eruption, and have parts like a volcano such as: conduit and materials. Some of models represent to eruption which contact with atmosphere but some models else is represent to eruption that contact with water. By the models, beside we can know the process or step of explosive eruption we also can measure velocity of eruption and materials spreading to surface, then the height of materials rising the atmosphere and the expansion of its spreading, so that by these models we can predict the hazard.
